For the Love of Longaberger

The Longaberger Company is an American manufacturer and distributor of handcrafted maple wood baskets and other home and lifestyle products. A family-owned and operated business, the Longaberger Company was started by Dave Longaberger and is currently led by his daughter, Tami Longaberger. Longaberger uses direct marketing to sell its products. The Longaberger corporate headquarters is a local landmark and an example of novelty architecture, since it shaped like the company’s biggest seller, the “Medium market Basket”. The seven story, 180,000 square foot building was designed by The Longaberger Company. The building opened in 1997. The basket handles weigh almost 150 tons and can be heated during cold weather to prevent ice damage.

The Longaberger Homestead is a shopping and dining area that capitalizes on the popularity of the company’s handmade baskets. The Homestead is built to resemble a small village and encompasses about 24 acres in the town of Frazeysburg, Ohio. For visitors, there are activities and events to enjoy. One of the most popular attractions is to make a basket; which allows guests to test their skills at weaving and basket making. A visit to the workshop for woven creations, allows guest to create at a much lower price from recycled basket materials.

Guests who prefer to buy pre-made creations can visit the onsite Longaberger Factory Store where they can browse and buy the company’s popular baskets. Tours of the factory are available but must be scheduled in advance.
